External Scholarships

UHD MBA students are invited to research and apply for external scholarships, some of which are listed below. This list is not intended to be comprehensive, but a starting point for the diverse types of scholarships that various organizations may offer to MBA students.

Please note: The scholarships listed below have different criteria for eligibility, documents, and deadlines, so research is highly recommended.

MDCOB Graduate Business Program Tuition Grant

UHD business graduate applicants for the Spring 2025 semester may be eligible for a tuition grant upon completing the admissions application process at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) based on enrollment status and financial need! The funds will be distributed for new incoming students and current/continuing students in MBA, MPAC, and MSM.

Scholarships by Program of Choice/Business Sector:

  • AICPA has various scholarships for students pursuing CPA careers: “The AICPA has supported accounting students for more than 130 years, including through a scholarship program. The scholarship program offers educational funding for accounting college students aspiring CPA licensure and for CPAs pursuing accounting doctoral studies. The AICPA Foundation awards more than $1 million in scholarships, grants and fellowships to hundreds of students each year, with recipients receiving on average $5,000 towards their education.”
  • Government Finance Officers Association offers several scholarships for students pursuing a career in state/provincial or local government finance:

Scholarships for Women:

  • The American Association of University Women (AAUW) offers several fellowships and grants for women pursuing education, including funding for international applicants:
  • The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) organization offers the Mary Elizabeth Lockwood Beneventi MBA Scholarship. It is a one-time preferred amount $2,000 scholarship for a student attending graduate school full time in an accredited college or university and majoring in business administration. The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.25. The scholarship is not automatically renewable, however, recipients may reapply for consideration each year.

  • The Association of Women in International Trade (WIIT) offeres merit-based scholarships that are awarded twice per year. These scholarships support and encourage women studying all aspects of International Trade, including trade policy and negotiations, global business and supply chains, economic development, women’s economic empowerment, and more.

    • In addition to the $3000 financial scholarship to be used against academic costs, scholarship winners will receive:
      • One full year of personal mentorship by a WIIT member.
      • One full year of WIIT membership.
      • One WIIT program based on the topic of the winning essay with knowledgeable professionals from the WIIT community.  Scholarship winner will have a visible opportunity to engage in a role in the discussion and leverage this public engagement for social media purposes.

 

Scholarships for Minority Students:

  • The AICPA has supported accounting students for more than 130 years, including through a scholarship program. The scholarship program offers educational funding for accounting college students aspiring CPA licensure and for CPAs pursuing accounting doctoral studies. The AICPA Foundation awards more than $1 million in scholarships, grants and fellowships to hundreds of students each year, with recipients receiving on average $5,000 towards their education. AICPA scholarship(s) for minority Accounting grad students:

 

  • Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF): Every year, HSF selects 10,000 outstanding students as HSF Scholars from a broad and talented pool of applicants. HSF Scholars have access to a full range of invaluable Scholar Support Services, including career services, mentorship, leadership development, knowledge building, and wellness training.

    • Career services include access to select internship and job opportunities with HSF corporate partners
    • HSF Scholars are eligible to apply for all Scholar Conferences including, the STEM Summit, Finance Conference, Media & Entertainment Summit, Entrepreneurship Summit, and Healthcare Summit
    • Exclusive access to the HSF Insider which shares invaluable information and career opportunities
    • Finally, and importantly, HSF awards more than $30 million in Scholarships annually and, depending upon available funds, HSF Scholars may also be eligible to receive a scholarship, which range from $500-$5,000 and are awarded directly to students
  • National Association of Black Accountants (NABA Inc.) offers a variety of scholarships for students of color. Through the generous contributions of individuals, groups, and organizations that share NABA’s desire to break through the economic barriers students of color often experience, as NABA’s mission to create a pathway for future Black Business Leaders, NABA offers an average of 150 scholarships annually ranging from $1,000 – $10,000.
  • National Black MBA Association offers a Crash Course Scholarship to active members. The NBMBAA® is dedicated to enriching the academic and professional development of students pursuing business careers, including MBA students. The Career Crash Course Scholarship provides a unique opportunity for high-achieving students to connect with industry leaders, participate in enriching workshops, and gain valuable insights into the world of business.

 

Scholarships for LGBTQ+ Students:

  • The Point Foundation Flagship Scholarship empowers LGBTQ students who are earning their undergraduate, graduate, & doctoral degrees at accredited colleges in the United States by offering financial support, mentorship or coaching, community resources, and professional development.

 

MDCOB Internal Scholarships

The application only needs to be submitted once per academic year (Fall/Spring/Summer). Your cumulative GPA, declared major(s), attempted/passed hours, and financial aid information is automatically updated for you throughout the academic year. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you enter your gatormail address correctly in the application, as this is the unique identifier we will use to gather your student data.

Scholarships are awarded to students in every major and every classification and are usually awarded based on merit or financial need, or a combination of both. International students are encouraged to apply as well. We recommend you review our available Scholarships along with the corresponding criteria before you apply.
