Mission
The Department of Mathematics & Statistics (MS) is one of three academic departments within the College of Sciences & Technology at the University of Houston-Downtown. The department offers broad-based studies in mathematics and statistics, which prepares students for an array of careers requiring advanced skills in quantitative reasoning. The MS department carries out this mission by providing educational opportunities for students through small classes, opportunities for independent study and research, and a senior project.

In conjunction with the Department of Urban Education, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers preparation for teacher certification. Our degree programs in MS also provide the foundation for those students interested in pursuing graduate degrees.

Math & Statistics Senior Project Ideas
Senior projects in the MS department provide seniors an opportunity to use the knowledge and skills they have acquired in a culminating math, statistics or data science project. A list of potential projects are available here. The faculty look forward to hearing from you!
NEW Graduate Math Certificate
This certificate allows students to take a variety of theory and application-based courses to strengthen their knowledge of mathematics and to prepare them for future careers, graduate degrees, and teaching opportunities. The Graduate Mathematics Certificate requires a minimum of 12 graduate semester credit hours from the graduate mathematics courses offered at UHD. Learn more.
