Organization Description

Avenue 360 (formerly Bering Omega Community Services) exists to nurture the wellbeing, and meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of persons affected by HIV/AIDS through compassionate healthcare and social services. We do so through the provision of four programs, completely free-of-charge: oral healthcare, adult day care, housing assistance and residential hospice services.

Description of Internship
An internship with Avenue 360 can encompass any (or all) of the following: 1) Social Work focus – assist with daily operations of adult day center including program planning and execution; activities coordination; and client interaction. 2) Medical/Nursing focus – assist with daily operations of Omega House, our residential hospice including physical care of our clients (i.e. bed baths, feeding, and other physical-care needs); maintenance of hospice (i.e. cooking, cleaning, etc.); and client interaction. 3) Dentistry/Oral Hygiene/Social Work focus – assist with daily operations of oral healthcare clinic including client intake/assessment; client greeting/clerical duties; and the opportunity to observe clinical practices of dental clinic. 4) Nonprofit management/Fundraising focus – assist with daily operations of Resource Development office including volunteer recruitment; grant writing and research; special events planning; and other development targets.


Criteria for Interns

Is there a minimum age?
18+

What personal, professional, or office skills do they need?

Open-minded, compassionate individuals only need apply. Spanish/English bilingual preferable, but certainly not required.

Do you want the internship to be available to all Social Science majors or just particular majors?
All social science majors.

Do you require a criminal background check, a TB test, or anything else?
We run criminal background checks on all potential volunteers (because of grant funding specifications, no felonies allowed in volunteers/staff background; all else case-by-case basis.) If a volunteer’s daily duties require client interaction, a TB test is required. The TB test is offered free-of-charge through our programs, or a TB test/Chest x-ray current within the last year is acceptable.
