Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence - Who We Are
A full-time director and associate director lead the CTLE in collaboration with an advisory board consisting of faculty and staff who represent the broader University. CTLE staff, board members, and subcommittee members facilitate the implementation of all programs and services. Together, more than 30 UHD faculty and staff actively contribute to the operation of the Center. The programs and services offered by the CTLE align with recommendations of the UHD CTLE Task Force initiated by the Faculty Senate prior to the center’s launch.
UHD CTLE Staff
Director: Gregory A. Dement, Ph.D.
Greg collaborates with members of the CTLE Advisory Board and Subcommittees to plan
and implement initiatives focused on fostering collaboration and innovation among
UHD faculty. He has a particular interest in supporting collaborative course redesign
and in motivational teaching strategies that can be implemented with minimal time
and effort. Greg holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from Washington State University and
a B.S. in Biology from Northwest Nazarene University. Prior to joining UHD, he served
as a National Institutes of Health (NIH) post-doctoral trainee and NIH Institutional
Research and Academic Career Development Award (IRACDA) teaching scholar at Baylor
College of Medicine.

Graphic Designer: Courtney Banks
Courtney obtained her undergraduate degree in Digital Media from the University of Houston. At the CTLE College Annex-MDCOB, Courtney is responsible for conceptualizing, creating, and incorporating imagery into instructional materials to enhance their communication and overall quality.
Instructional Designer: Yolany Lagos-Banks, Ph.D.
Yolany is our Temp Instructional Designer at the CTLE. She has a Ph.D. in Instructional Design and Development from the University of South Alabama. Before joining UHD, she worked in Higher Education with faculty on designing and redesigning courses in different modalities across various colleges. She was part of a team of Instructional Designers that led the Canvas transition and training for a Higher Education Institution. She also worked on research initiatives with Faculty members in the College of Education and College of Allied Health. Yolany provides consultations to our faculty at UHD. She is interested in bringing awareness to the importance of Quality Course Design through the lens of Quality Matters Standards to create courses that are accessible to all learners. She hopes to build relationships with faculty to improve the student experience at UHD.
Instructional Designer: Fabiola Vacatoledo, MS
Fabiola provides consultation and guidance in designing and redesigning online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses to maximize student success. She also supports development and implementation of CTLE programs and services. She hopes to build partnerships in learning with faculty through consultations, course design support, pedagogy, and educational technology recommendations. She is interested in supporting faculty with creating accessible and equitable learning spaces for all students. Fabiola holds a M.S. in Instructional Design and Technology from the University of Houston Clear Lake and double B.A. in English and Spanish. Fabiola was an educator of children and adults prior to Instructional Design.
