University Honors Program

The University Honors Program is a thriving learning community inspired by the values of academic excellence, personal development and civic engagement. Honors students come from every major, and our curriculum is designed to enrich your educational experience and help you become a better scholar, leader, and creative thinker. You will gain new perspectives and make lasting friendships at Honors retreats, workshops, and social events. There are also special opportunities to study abroad, attend conferences, connect with community leaders, and engage in service learning.

Why Honors?

Participation in the UHD Honors Program will ensure that your undergraduate experience is both memorable and meaningful. Major benefits of the program include:

Community. You will be part of a close-knit community of students who share classes together, collaborate on research and service projects, enjoy down time in the honors student lounge, and take part in retreats, field trips and other outside-the-classroom activities. Peer mentorship is also provided for all entering students.

Small classes. Honors classes are kept small to foster discussion and promote a high level of interaction between students and instructors. You will have a chance to work closely with outstanding faculty who will encourage and support you as you progress toward the completion of your degree.

Distinction. As an honors student, you will develop the analytical, communication and leadership skills that will help you stand out from the crowd. You and your classmates will be recognized for your accomplishments at commencement and your honors coursework will be highlighted on your transcript - a distinction that will attract the attention of graduate school admission offices and potential employers.

Scholarships and Internships. Students who are part of the University Honors Program are eligible for several scholarships. These awards are reserved for honors students and, in the case of the Distinguished Merit Scholarship, are renewable for up to four years. We will also connect you with internship opportunities that will enable you to acquire valuable, real-world experience in the fields and professions that interest you.
