Organization Description
The City of Houston Mayor's Communication Department is seeking two interns to assist in drafting ceremonial documents, which include mayoral certificates, letters and proclamations, general researching and preparation of media briefings from various mediums.
Internship Duties
Candidates must demonstrate initiative, have some writing experience and are knowledgeable of AP style. Prospective interns must be able to prioritize and organize tasks, produce copy under tight deadlines and possess excellent interpersonal communication skills. Also, candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and the Internet. In addition to the above stated tasks, candidates will also help to reorganize important Mayor's Office files and documents so that they may be quickly referenced in the future when needed. Interns will have many additional educational opportunities such as attending Mayor Parker press conferences and sitting in on council sessions.
Requirements
A college junior or senior majoring in professional writing, business administration or communication is preferred. Intern must be able to work a minimum of four hours a day, three times a week. This is an unpaid internship but the experience gained as well as networking opportunities are priceless. I will begin conducting interviews very soon so a timely response is recommended.
